Building Team Project of the Year Awards

A dramatic theater addition in Hartford, Conn., and an innovative new aquarium and wildlife museum in Springfield, Mo. — although different in many respects, share a common trait — their design and construction exemplify successful collaborative achievement by their building teams. The New Belding Theater (see page 32) and the American National Fish and Wildlife Museum (page 42) are the top winners in Building Design & Construction's fifth annual Building Team Project of the Year competition. Following the evaluation of more than 30 submissions, seven judges representing diverse building team disciplines also recognized four other projects: a five-building expansion of a software manufacturing company's headquarters in California (page 50); a new minor league baseball stadium in downtown Memphis (page 54); a research and development center for a spin-off of Lucent Technologies in Colorado (page 59); and a retail and office complex in the heart of Minneapolis (page 65).

Each represents the fruit of extraordinary teamwork and a no-nonsense commitment to deliver the best possible product to their project owners, both public and private. For more on these deserving developments and the players who brought them to life, please turn the page...
