Miami Worldcenter, one of the nation's largest urban developments, achieves LEED-ND Silver
Miami Worldcenter, one of the largest mixed-use urban developments in the U.S., has achieved LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) Silver Certification.
This major milestone follows the completion of the $6 billion, 27-acre downtown Miami district. The development integrates transit connectivity, walkability, green infrastructure, and energy-efficient design across a dense, mixed-use environment.
The project transformed a once underutilized area of downtown into a vibrant, pedestrian-oriented neighborhood. A key driver behind the certification is Apple’s first store built with a primary mass timber structure using sustainably sourced cross-laminated timber panels to reduce embodied carbon.
The store operates on 100% renewable energy and incorporates a rooftop garden and biophilic design elements.
Since its inception nearly a decade ago, Miami Worldcenter has evolved into a fully realized district encompassing residential, retail, hospitality, and public space.
The development features about 300,000 sf of retail, public open space, hospitality, residential towers, and direct connectivity to Brightline, Metromover, and Metrorail mass transit.
Miami Worldcenter incorporates energy-efficient systems, water-conscious landscaping, and thoughtfully designed open spaces that enhance urban livability while minimizing environmental impact.
A central component is the district’s expansive public plaza, which serves as both a social and environmental asset—integrating shade, greenery, and stormwater management elements to improve microclimate conditions and support resilience in a dense urban setting.
