The Northland Workforce Development Center in Kansas City, which will support programs in skilled trades, manufacturing, health sciences, and human services, recently topped out. The 145,000 sf, two-story facility will expand access to high-demand career and technical education programs for students and adult learners across the Northland region of Kansas City.

After it is completed, the $74 million facility will significantly expand the capacity of Northland Career Center and its partners to serve high school students and adult learners seeking industry-aligned training and credentials. The center will nearly double the number of career training pathways and programs offered to better align with current and emerging workforce needs.

The first floor is dedicated to flexible, hands-on skilled trades labs and shop spaces supporting construction, manufacturing, electrical, and related technical programs. The second floor will focus on health and human services, with purpose-built simulation labs, classrooms, and collaboration spaces for pathways such as nursing, medical assisting, and social services.

“With support from the State of Missouri, local municipalities, businesses and industries, individual investors, and community foundations, we are making a long-term investment in the success of our students and the future of our region,” said Brian Noller, executive director of business services and the project’s campaign lead at Platte County School District. “The Northland Workforce Development Center will open doors to high-demand career opportunities, strengthen employers across the Kansas City area, and help ensure our community remains competitive for years to come.”

The project team, led by construction manager JE Dunn and design firm Clark & Enersen, is targeting substantial completion in 2027, with construction progressing on schedule for a summer opening.
