Building design giant LEO A DALY hires retired Army colonel Richard Onken in its healthcare division

Omaha, Neb. – September 14, 2009 - Retired Lt. Col. Richard J. Onken has joined international architecture, planning, engineering, interior design and program management firm LEO A DALY as senior healthcare planner and project manager. In his new role, Onken will provide project management, medical facilities programming, design, and master planning for hospital campuses throughout the country.

Onken, who served in the Air Force for over 20 years, most recently was the Chief of Healthcare Design for the Air Force Surgeon General and was based in Falls Church, Va. He led a team of health facility officers and healthcare professionals in the development and construction of major Air Force medical projects, with a total value of $2.7 billion. He also served as the surgeon general’s representative in the development of codes, criteria, and guide plates for military medical facilities. Prior to that position, Onken was a health facility planner for the Multi-National Security Transition Command in Baghdad, Iraq.

Onken received the Bronze Star Medal in 2005 and Meritorious Service Medals in 1994, 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2009. He has a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master of Science in International Relations from Troy University in Troy, Ala.
