The oldest building at the University of Minnesota’s twin cities campus is slated for a major overhaul. Eddy Hall, a 31,000 sf red brick Queen Anne-style structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has some structural deficiencies and needs to be transformed into modern office space.

The university plans to fix up the building’s exterior, redo the interior, and reconfigure floor plates. The exterior needs tuck pointing, and water infiltration has to be addressed.
The restored space will be used as a welcome center for international and transfer students and other admissions operations. The rehab is estimated to cost $11.25 million. Some other campus buildings of the same era have been, or are slated to be, demolished, however, Eddy Hall with its multi-gabled roof, high double-hung windows, panels of patterned brick, iron cresting, and weather vane on the tower, will be preserved.
