ProMedica constructed a new Health and Wellness Center with the goal of becoming an all-in-one medical facility serving the Sylvania, Ohio area. The 230,000-square-foot, three-story building houses physician offices, diagnostic testing, wellness education, retail and dining. The two courtyards and glass atrium connect staff and visitors with the outdoors year round, and feature Kawneer’s curtain wall systems and customized sunshades painted with a terracotta finish to provide a distinctive look to the LEED-Certified® building.
Resilient Solutions to Promote Healing
Kawneer products maximize natural light into the building while offering a striking aesthetic and enhanced thermal performance. The custom Versoleil™ Sunshades provide maximum shading and energy-savings for the facility. The engineered outriggers and vertical support plates were modified and applied to the façade. An aluminum screen system with a terracotta-like painted finish was installed to help with sun shading and address design objectives.
Positively Impacting Occupants' Well-Being
The 1600UT System™2 Curtain Wall was silicone glazed vertically and captured horizontally to deliver a modern design, increase natural daylight and enhance thermal performance. The curtain wall was installed from the inside out, overcoming the challenges of offloading the product to the narrow courtyards.
Innovative Products Contribute to Excellent Outcomes
The use of Kawneer’s pioneering products contributed to outstanding results and a LEED-Certified® building. The health and wellness center boasts 23 interconnected standard clinic modules that allow staff to reach patients more efficiently. According to the project’s architectural firm, the clinical team now walks 36% less than before, allowing them to reach patients almost two minutes faster, creating up to one hour per day of added patient care.
