The University of Massachusetts Amherst conceived of the Isenberg Innovation Hub as a way to intelligently use space and create a seamless flow of people and ideas.

For this $62 million, 70,000-square-foot expansion of their business school, UMass brought in two of the world’s top architectural design firms—Bjarke Ingels Group and Goody Clancy—to help them achieve their vision.

The facility’s state-of-the-art design and commitment to sustainability required them to also create restrooms that could match this concept. That’s why they chose D|13 Group.

The company’s original offering, the D|13 Sink System featuring the XLERATORsync Hand Dryer, is a completely customizable system that seamlessly fuses high-efficiency, sensor-activated fixtures on the sink deck. This allows users to wash, rinse, and dry hands all in one place—in a completely touchless package.

With the proven success of this system, D|13 Group has now created the D25 Sink System. The new offering comes in a 25-inch standard package that allows for quick and easy purchase and speedy installation turnaround, giving architects and building owners a simple way to upgrade the look and feel of any restroom.

At the heart of the D25 system is the XLERATORsync, beautifully designed to match any restroom aesthetic. Along with its 14-second dry time and adjustable speed, sound, and heat controls, the XLERATORsync is extremely cost-effective—providing a typical 95% cost savings versus paper towels.

An extremely sustainable restroom option, XLERATORsync uses 80% less energy than a conventional hand dryer and reduces a facility’s hand-drying carbon footprint up to 70%—even when compared to 100%-recycled paper towels.

In addition to its touchless status, the XLERATORsync promotes superior hygienic standards with a “reverse airflow” system that guides water away from the user and back into the basin.

It also comes equipped with a HEPA filtration system, removing 99.999% of viruses from the airstream, as proven by testing from LMS Technologies. The same testing showed Excel Dryer hand dryers removed 99.97% of potentially present bacteria at 0.3 microns from the airstream.

The accessibility standards for bathroom planning are complex, but the goal is always the same: equal access for all. With this standard in mind, the D25 system is ADA compliant, and its brushed stainless steel enclosure hides its plumbing for a more pleasing restroom appearance. However, the plumbing enclosure panel is easily accessible when needed.

UMass isn’t the only institution to enjoy the benefits offered by XLERATORsync—it can also be found as part of D|13 Sink Systems within stadiums, restaurants and countless other venues.
