Climate change is a concern all over the world. One of the many places trying to address this issue is Vancouver.
In August, Simon Fraser University's community think tank, SFU Public Square, launched the RISE competition to find creative solutions to a difficult challenge facing the city: rising sea levels.
According to SFU Public Square, the competition was spurred by new climate data: "Recent reports predict the ocean that surrounds our communities will rise by 1 meter by 2100, putting housing, transportation, and ecosystems at major risk while causing significant economic losses," the firm said. "Adapting and thriving in the future will rely on putting our best creative and practical minds together."
The competition is open to everyone, and entries will be voted on by the public. The Grand Prize winner will take home a cash prize of $35,000 and meet experts on the issue at an Oct. 19 public exhibition day.
