Michigan bill would let private firms operate as a city’s building department

Michigan House Bill 5011 would change state’s building code to allow private companies to operate as a municipality's building department. Currently private companies can only perform basic supplemental tasks required of a building department such as site inspections.

This measure is at odds with municipal building departments’ policy to make no profits from the fees that are set by the municipal entity in charge of the department. To learn more, click here. BD+C
