The original interior of the Scranton Middle School located in the small community of Brighton, MI had grown tired and drab – but a beautifully installed floor with unique shapes, colors, patterns and materials transformed it into an inviting, inspiring space for students and staff.
Installation Challenge
The major challenge for the design and installation team was integrating large swaths of broadloom carpet with individual carpet tiles. At 6,000 square feet, the large space presented challenges with carpet seams, stripes and radiuses that had to line up perfectly with doorways and other visual guides. Furniture was also designed to fit within several sections, meaning that the installation had to be absolutely precise. Circles within circles, half-circles and different materials added to the complexity, and special templates had to be developed to ensure a perfect fit.
Results
Thanks to a highly skilled, INSTALL-trained team, a beautifully renovated space now greets students and staff when they enter the library. The large swaths of broadloom are expertly installed and built to provide years of use. Much of this can be attributed to Conventional Carpet’s INSTALL-based apprenticeship program, as many of the installers have spent their entire career at the company and receive annual regular training by INSTALL certified trainers.
INSTALL understands the importance of the spec. You can specify with confidence and exceed expectations with INSTALL as your flooring insurance. We provide our certified flooring installers with the training and expertise to deliver the floor as you designed it.

WEB EXCLUSIVE: Moisture-related failures in agglomerated floor tiles
Agglomerated tiles offer an appealing appearance similar to natural stone at a lower cost. To achieve successful installations, manufacturers should provide design data for moisture-related dimensional changes, specifiers should require in-situ moisture testing similar to those used for other flooring materials, and the industry should develop standards for fabrication and installation of agglomerated tiles.
