Metal cladding turns parking garage into mixed-use development

Metal cladding turns parking garage into mixed-use development

February 15, 2011

A $35 million makeover turned a crumbling, four-story parking garage in downtown Tacoma, Wash., into a new six-story mixed-use building with 68,000 sf of class A office space, 32,000 sf of storefront office and retail space, and a 28,000-sf green roof. Renamed the Pacific Plaza, the rehabbed project is clad in 26,000 sf of Metl-Span CF insulated panels. The three-foot panels have a weathered zinc finish and are installed horizontally in 24-, 30-, and 36-inch lengths. The Building Team included design firm BLRB Architects and PCS Structural Solutions (SE), both based in Tacoma, and Absher Construction (GC), Puyallup, Wash.
