Mixed-use complex features Chicony department store in Chengdu, China

The first phase of a 37-story, mixed-use complex in Chengdu, China, is complete, adding a new 111,500-sf Chicony Plaza department store to the retail community. The 12-story store is crowned by a Grand Hyatt hotel, which occupies the top 25 stories. Chicago-based architecture firm Goettsch Partners provided architectural, interior design, planning, and design services for the project. Asymmetrically stacking the hotel tower above the retail space, the Building Team sought to integrate the new architecture with existing urban surroundings. Stepped gardens, a sky lobby, ballrooms, and dining facilities unify the two primary components of the building.
