Drew Ballensky is general manager of Duro-Last Roofing, Inc.’s central U.S. facility in Iowa and company spokesman for Duro-Last’s cool roofing, sustainability and architectural education programs. He is past-president of the Chemical Fabrics and Film Association and chairman of CFFA’s Vinyl Roofing Division. Drew earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from the University of Northern Iowa and master’s degree in business administration from Florida State University. Drew has over 29 years experience in business and industry in various engineering and managerial capacities. He has worked in the U.S. and Canadian operations for a major international manufacturer of pre-engineered steel buildings, was a financial analyst with a major athletic apparel manufacturer and was an owner of a general contracting company.

Massive LAX rehab to feature 18 gates for super-sized planes

A $1.5 billion makeover and expansion of the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport features the addition of 18 new gates, with nine able to accommodate the next generation of super-sized jetliners such as the double-decker Airbus A380. The addition of the larger gates was critical for LAX to accommodate the needs of several international airlines. http://www.contracostatimes.com/california/ci_17863166?nclick_check=1 LAX had initially planned to direct Airbus A380s to remote gates that would have required passengers to catch a shuttle to the terminal. Qantas Airlines officials made it clear that they were considering moving their A380 flights to San Francisco unless LAX officials constructed terminal gates to serve the aircraft, which can seat as many as 850 passengers. The renovated International Terminal will double in size to 2.1 million square feet. The main concourse will be demolished to make way for two new concourses on the north and south sides of the building. Other modernization projects under way at LAX include renovations of Terminals 4, 5, and 6 and the construction of a new utility plant.

i am in the architectural salvage business, headquartered in springfield mo. noticing your degrees in education, and past business experience, espescially as a building contractor, i am sure we have more than a few things in common, and could share some war stories. my company supplies the whole tier of end users from wholesale to retail when it comes to reclaimed/antique building materials. we stock used brick,steet pavers,cobblestones, terra-cotta,heavy timbers,lumber,complete trusses,flooring,yada-yada-yada. it would be fun to share some thoughts sometime. as you may have guessed i am not too proficient at the computer.i would rather visit in person, or on the phone anyday. thanks for doing what you do, it is important for the industry and the economy.sincerely mike hill.
