CityCenterDC Reinvents Downtown Washington, D.C.

Large urban infill projects give neighborhoods the opportunity to reinvent themselves. Colors, scale, textures, and project details all set the tone for how community members will interact with the new space, helping to reinvent a city’s character. As one of the largest urban infill projects of its kind in Washington, D.C., CityCenterDC contains 2.5 million square feet of shops, apartments, restaurants, condominiums, offices, and public spaces to create a pedestrian-oriented experience.

The 10-acre development occupies 3.5 blocks and eight buildings downtown. Two 11-story office towers feature 360 degree views and pedestrian bridges linking the two together. Valspar's Fluropon coatings were used to achieve the desired aesthetic, durability, and sustainability goals.

The metallic-and-glass exterior contains an aluminum-framed curtain wall, with aluminum panels and sunshades, and features Valspar's Fluropon Bright Pewter coating. The ground-floor storefronts contain a Fluropon Black Buckle coating, creating a sleek glass and metallic exterior.

The CityCenterDC project had the unique opportunity to transform the massive Washington Convention Center parcel into a state-of-the-art facility that integrates itself into the surrounding community. This vision is now a reality, reinventing this important segment of New York Avenue.
