Artist housing in New Orleans reflects cultural growth

Artist housing in New Orleans reflects cultural growth

By Leslie Streicher, Associate Editor | October 11, 2011

The second phase of construction is under way for the Bywater Art Lofts, a successful reuse housing development in New Orleans. Located across the street from the original Bywater lofts, the Bywater Art Lofts II will offer onsite parking, bicycle storage, gallery space, common studios, and sculpture garden to nurture a burgeoning artist community in the state.

HCI Architecture, Woodward Design + Build, and J.H. Rex Rutter Manufacturing Co. form the Building Team, planning for 27 new apartments to open next year. Total development costs of $11.5 million are funded primarily by the Louisiana State Historic Tax Credit program.
