Pioneer Flower Farms Limited, the largest bulb forcing farm in Canada, began construction on a new 170,000-square-foot warehouse in December of 2019 in St. Catherines, Ontario. After the existing building burned down, the project team needed a building envelope solution that would provide superior insulation value with a quick and simple installation.

Pioneer Farms produces more than 70 million blooms each year, requiring a large warehouse that could accommodate movable freezers. The coolers were a vital component of the new warehouse to store bulbs properly.

Metl-Span delivered a high-performance, all-in-one solution that delivered higher R-values and effective protection from the elements.

Installation Made Easy

Crews installed more than 400,000 square feet of insulated metal panels on the new Pioneer Farms, including exterior and roof systems, as well as the installation of 24 large coolers.

“Metl-Span was able to provide fantastic delivery times when a lot of projects were being delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ron Brouwer of Brouwer Building Systems Inc. “For a pre-engineered building of this size, we needed to go with people we knew could get the job done on time.”

Metl-Span successfully met the tight delivery schedule and was able to help ensure the project stayed on schedule with a timely and efficient installation.

Wearing the White

The project crew selected CF Mesa 5” panels in Winter White for a complete wall and roof system.

CF Mesa can be used for both internal and external cladding solutions in a variety of widths and thicknesses. CF Mesa delivers high R-values to create an energy-efficient space, including concealed clips to decrease thermal bridging. CF Mesa panels feature an interlocking design that makes them quick and easy to install, reducing overall construction costs.

Pioneer Flower Farms Limited was completed in December 2020.
