Art and Architecture

A custom-made access door manufactured by The BILCO Company was used in a unique project at the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas. The building is an art piece designed by a world-famous artist, Ellsworth Kelly, and the door allows access to mechanical equipment in the basement. Read more. 

 

King of the Hill

Roof hatches manufactured by The BILCO Company were installed at Parliament Hill’s West Block in Canada. The $863 million project united the charm of a Victorian Gothic structure built in the 1800s with the technological innovations of today. The roof hatches allow access to the attic and mechanical equipment. Read more. 

 

A Piece of History

Smoke vents manufactured by BILCO were installed at the iconic Cincinnati Music Hall. The hall was built in 1878 and is listed as a National Historic Landmark. Seven automatic smoke vents were included on the roof. The vents, which measure 66 inches by 144 inches, are among the largest on the commercial market.  Read more. 

 

Converting Waste to Energy

A biodigester is being built in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that will convert food waste to energy and increase energy efficiency. The biodigester includes 19 roof hatches and floor access doors manufactured by BILCO and is part of the city’s goal to use 100 percent renewable energy to power city buildings by 2025. Read more. 

 

Managing Water Resources 

Floor access doors manufactured by BILCO were used to protect pumps in an innovative water treatment project in Virginia. The project, called SWIFT (Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow) by the Hampton Roads Sanitation District will attempt to solve a number of water-related issues that are affecting local residents. Read more.
