R.D. Olson Construction renovates La Quinta Clubhouse, once known as PGA West Stadium Clubhouse

August 11, 2010

IRVINE, Calif.— February 4, 2009 --R.D. Olson Construction, California’s premiere hotel and resort builder, has completed renovating the La Quinta Resort & Club’s Stadium Tournament Club--formerly known as PGA West Stadium Clubhouse. R.D. Olson also revamped and notably expanded the outdoor terraces overlooking the 18th hole of two highly esteemed golf courses--PGA West Stadium and PGA West Tournament.
Stadium Tournament Club is located at 56-150 PGA Blvd., La Quinta, California.
The clubhouse and its terraces were originally built in 1990. In bringing new life to the venue, the clubhouse interior was upgraded to a contemporary high-end sports bar venue fitted with 15 large flat screen televisions. The 25,000-square-foot clubhouse radiates warmth and friendliness achieved through controlled lighting, rich walnut woods and carpeting that compliments the dark rust- and cream-colored walls and furnishings.
As part of the Stadium Tournament Club’s major overhaul, two large elevated patio terraces were added, which overlook the junction of the golf courses. One is a 15,000-square-foot glass-bordered deck that sits just outside of the dining area. It is enhanced by two large fire pits, which are encircled by benches for comfortable seating. The terrace is designed to provide for a venue that can host large events. Nestled at the end of the fairway, the terrace also provides for the perfect view from which spectators may watch tournament players take their final swings. In connecting the terrace to the indoor dining room, R.D. Olson installed removable glass doors-a contemporary design element that is particularly convenient for using the combined areas for large events.
The second terrace is a 2,000-square-foot home to a contemporary “grab & go” market designed with African mahogany and granite countertops—also a comfortable resting spot for golfers to gather.
“We created a warm yet spacious indoor/outdoor experience in a world-class setting,” said Executive Vice President William Wilhelm, R.D. Olson Construction.
The Irvine-based construction firm also enhanced the exterior landscaping surrounding the clubhouse with an artsy array of foliage through which runs a maze of pedestrian pathways constructed with washed colored concrete revealing a hint of pebbled stones.
Peterson Architecture & Associates, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, is credited with the renovation design. Renovation costs total $4.6 million.
R.D. Olson Construction was founded in 1979. It has grown into one of the top 50 general contracting firms in California, building such establishments as Marriott Newport Coast Villas, Newport Beach; Ojai Valley Inn & Spa Resort; and four Marriott Residence Inns in Burbank, Oceanside, Irvine, and Long Beach. Renovations include the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, Los Angeles; Ritz Carlton Spa, Marina del Rey; and Four Seasons Los Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. Its most recent completions include the new 19-story Hotel Palomar, Westwood; and the 174-room Renaissance ClubSport in Aliso Viejo--a full service boutique hotel and world-class fitness resort. Additionally, the company has completed more than 300 major brand restaurants nationwide. Current California projects under construction include the LodgeWorks’ boutique hotel, AVIA Long Beach; Marriott’s Shadow Ridge, Palm Desert; and the Four Seasons Hotel, Los Angeles renovation.
