Moisture and mold problems are the last things the people of East Grand Rapids, Mich., will have to worry about at their new community center, thanks, in part, to a vapor retarder from CertainTeed Corp.
Local architect Cox Medendorp Olson Architects specified MemBrain Smart Vapor Retarder for the project for its “breathable and inorganic” qualities, according to Bill Rapson, architect with Cox Medendorp Olson.
“To create an efficient wall cavity, we needed a vapor retarder that will allow the wall to dry on both sides, depending on the particular climate condition,” said Rapson.
MemBrain reacts to varying humidity conditions by changing its molecular permeability to allow wall cavities to stay dry and help reduce the risk of damaging mold and mildew. The product performs well in climates like Michigan, where humidity reaches extremely high levels during the summer months and low levels in the winter months.
