Center creation

Columbus Christian Center in Columbus, Ohio, is a large church and school designed with a pre-engineered EIFS-coated structure topped by a Starshield roof. The 54,000-sq.-ft. building includes a 2,236-seat sanctuary, administrative offices, a two-story classroom wing and a 42-ft.-high main entry foyer. The structure made erection easier during a difficult winter and reduced construction costs.

Church chimes

A fiberglass pre-engineered reproduction of the cupola of the Neshanic Reformed Church in New Jersey, which was constructed in 1772, consists of column covers, cornice, dome, functional louvers, balusters and an integral fiberglass structure. It is engineered to withstand 150 mph winds and snowstorms.

Space to spare

Engineered in conjunction with a SpaceLoft mezzanine, in-plant offices can double or triple useful floor space, providing additional security, noise abatement and storage room. Designed to fit around columns and machinery, the structures minimize ground-floor obstructions. The nut-and-bolt assembly allows for quick installation.

Space solutions

Fiberglass structures provide fast-customized alternatives to wood and metal sheds, industrial enclosures and other traditional space solutions. Designated Modulaire Enclosures are expandable, lightweight and weather-resistant and available for both lease and purchase. They can be used as portable buildings or covered walkways as well as for storage of products or equipment.

Splish, splash

The 22,500-sq-ft. Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas, used the 130-ft. CXP clearspan frame, which economically met the requirements for a column-free interior. Special coatings and insulation systems stand up to the corrosive pool environment. Designed by San Antonio-based Rehler, Vaughn & Koone, Architects, the structure was built by Spaw Glass Contractors Inc., Selma, Texas. San Antonio-based Moore Erection LP erected the frame.

Goal scored

Louisville Soccer Park in Louisville, Ky., installed two combination restroom/concession modular facilities. Manufactured for economy and ease of installation, Hunter's Trail buildings are plumbed, wired and shipped complete with concrete floor. The buildings meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements and can be customized to suit specific needs.

Candy striped

Great Oaks Vocational Institute of Technology and Career Development in Cincinnati used a "candy-cane" support structure for its L-shaped covered walkway that leads from the main and handicapped parking areas to the facility's entrance. The Floline Series 900 support structure incorporates 142 feet of 22-gauge, G-90 galvanized steel panels, which were curved to a 5-ft. radius to form the arch.

Framing facilitators

Multistory pre-engineered steel building systems help builders and contractors frame their projects. A 30,000-sq.-ft., three-story office building in Bellingham, Wash., has split face block on the ground floor with traditional red brick for the upper stories.

Up on the roof

Stegner Electric of Auburn Hills, Mich., commissioned an 11-ft. overhang for both its lower and upper roof structures. Such an overhang, especially in a heavy snow region, can create a design challenge for typical light-gauge truss systems. With the Ultra-Span Prefabricated Light Gauge Steel Truss System, drawings were submitted, special connection details were created and trusses were fabricated and delivered within four weeks.

Modular components speed construction

Pre-engineered and prefabricated modular panel structures assemble up to 400 percent faster than conventional methods. Structure, sheeting and insulation are installed in modular panels, as are doors, windows and ventilation. Small-Span panels are punched to accept a patented locking key, so that builders can quickly attach hinged roof panels to wall panels with one hand, rather than laboriously hold bolts, frames, sheeting and insulation steady with two hands.
