Manhattan hotel’s composite panels installed under tight conditions

March 16, 2011 |

Island Exterior Fabricators of Calverton, N.Y., completed the exterior envelope of the 45-story Cassa Hotel & Residences  in midtown Manhattan using Reynobond R-4300 composite panels in a dry-joint rainscreen assembly.

The hotel’s exterior consisted of 400 of the 450-sf mega-panels measuring 10 feet by 45 feet. Because the hotel was built between two existing buildings, nearly three-quarters of the panels were installed blind, with contractors remotely communicating with the crane operator stationed at the front elevation and no sightlines to the installation in progress. The structure was fully enclosed in eight weeks.
