As part of a complete modernization of the KÖWE shopping center in Regensburg, Germany, local lighting designer LI-EX created an all-glass facade that is backlit with 2,448 Golden Dragon LEDs. The LEDs are fitted on the top and bottom of an advertising banner that wraps the building and are positioned to direct light up and down. Special secondary lenses on the LEDs allow individual patterns with more than 16 million colors to be projected onto the building's outer surface. Golden Dragons have a life of up to 100,000 hours, are small in size, and require minimal energy consumption.
