The Center for Urban Ecology, which encourages city planners to install green roofs, decided to follow its own advice and install a 7,000-sf green roof atop its Washington, D.C., headquarters. The center selected the GreenGrid modular system. The modules are composed of 60% post-industrial recycled plastic, come pre-planted, and are available in 2½-, 4-, and 8-inch depths. The system is also lightweight—the modules weigh just 28 pounds per square foot.
