Army Depot's roof goes green

This article first appeared in the 200710 issue of BD+C.

Officials at the Tobyhanna Army Depot in Northeastern Pennsylvania wanted to operate a more energy-efficient building, so they opted to install a green roof on one of the depot's wings. Randy Didier, environmental management division chief, and Mike Parrent, the depot's pollution prevention program manager, chose the GreenGrid modular green roof system from Weston Solutions. The system, which comes pre-planted in recycled plant modules, offers quick and easy installation. Didier estimated the roof will help reduce energy costs by 30%.
