Mergers and acquisitions. Phoenix-based A/E/CM Durrant has acquired the operating assets of Honolulu-based architectural/project management firm Media Five Limited.

Hart Freeland Roberts Inc. and Orr/Houk & Associates Architects Inc., both of Nashville, Tenn., have merged under the Hart Freeland Roberts name.

New York City-based Weidlinger Associates Inc. has merged with Santa Monica, Calif.-based The Hart Consultant Group.

Ewing Cole Cherry Brott Inc., a Philadelphia-based A/E, has acquired the Washington, D.C., interior design firm of Beard Warwick Cornell Associates Inc. Kenneth Warwick and S. Christina Cornell have been named principals. Paul G. Heflin is managing principal of the Washington office.

Philadelphia-based engineering firm The Burns Group has opened an office in Edison, N.J. Thomas Harrigan is regional manager.

Diversified Construction and Engineering Services of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has opened an office in nearby Boca Raton, Fla.

On the rise. Michael J. McWay is the new president of the Texas division of St. Louis-based McCarthy Building Companies Inc.

Valerio Dewalt Train Associates, Chicago, has promoted Louis Ray and Randall Mattheis to principals.

Irving, Texas-based apartment builder JPI has promoted Mark Bryant to senior vice president of asset management for its Southern division.

Lynn Beedle is retiring as director of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, Bethlehem, Pa.

Kenneth Stipcak has joined Washington, D.C.-based CM Mark G. Anderson Consultants as technology group director.

D.E. Harvey Builders Inc. of Houston has added Jim Cecil as director of the general contractor's new building services division.

In memoriam. A founding principal of Anderson Notter Finegold, which is now Finegold Alexander + Associates, and more recently a principal at Platt Anderson Freeman in Boston, Timothy Anderson died Feb. 20.
