OSHA revises steel erection standards

OSHA revises steel erection standards

By Staff | August 11, 2010

After years of study, OSHA implemented revised steel erection standards in January. Changes will affect requirements for site layout and construction sequence, site-specific erection plans, hoisting and rigging, structural steel assembly, column anchorage, beams and columns, open web steel joists, systems-engineered metal buildings, falling object protection, fall protection and training.

OSHA will not begin general schedule inspections of steel erection until March 18 to allow additional time for outreach. However, all other types of inspections (i.e., referral, complaint, etc.) are now authorized. This modifies The Code of Federal Regulations, Title 29, Part 1926, Subpart R (www.osha-slc.gov/-steelerection/index.html).
