NRMCA Releases Green-Star Templates to Help Producers Establish Environmental Management Systems

August 11, 2010

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) has completed its Sample Green-Star Environmental Management System (EMS) templates, tools that are designed to help ready mixed concrete producers establish their own EMS. These templates help ready mixed concrete (RMC) production facilities identify environmental strategies that will lead toward implementing environmental goals. The NRMCA Green-Star program was started in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency as a tool to help RMC facilities become even more environmentally friendly. “Green-Star is helping RMC facilities operate in a more environmentally friendly manner and, at the same time, facilities are saving money by analyzing their environmental program and setting goals to reduce such items as water and power use,” said Gary Mullings, NRMCA’s senior vice president of operations and compliance. “Green-Star also focuses on management commitment to environmental protection.”

“Green-Star is another example of the ready mixed concrete industry’s commitment to the environment,” added NRMCA President Robert Garbini.

NRMCA, based in Silver Spring, MD, represents the producers of ready mixed concrete and the companies that provide materials, equipment and support to the industry. It conducts education, training, promotion, research, engineering, safety, environmental, technological, lobbying and regulatory programs.
