Calculating curtain wall

New Web-based tool can help A/E/C professionals calculate thermal stress and wind loads when specifying glass curtain-wall systems. Users input virtually any type of glass, regardless of manufacturer, lamination, glazing and thickness — and the program provides recommendations for the appropriate glass type and heat-treatment method.

Working together

Promoting careers within the construction industry, a Web site developed by the Associated General Contractors of America, the Associated Equipment Distributors Foundation and the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association provides job descriptions, career-path sequences, educational requirements and salary ranges, as well as a database of more than 1,000 post-secondary schools.

Scheduling online

Construction professionals can schedule building inspections and access information about building permits simply by logging onto the Internet from any Internet-ready cell phone, eliminating the need for contractors to visit the local code-enforcement department. Nextel launched the service in Mecklenburg County, N.C.

Thin red line

Building team members using this Internet-based project-management program are automatically notified of redlines in a project. Notifications are sent directly to the e-mail inbox of users, and when users open the document, all redlines are automatically opened as well.
