IFMA names Tony Keane President and CEO

August 11, 2010

The International Facility Management Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony “Tony” J. Keane, CAE, as the association’s new president and CEO. Keane’s first day will be Jan. 18, 2010. His appointment coincides with the announced retirement of David J. Brady, current IFMA president and CEO, at the end of February 2010.

A certified association executive with significant experience in the nonprofit sector, Keane served for four years as executive director of NACE International, the professional association for corrosion engineers, also headquartered in Houston. At NACE, Keane led strategic initiatives to grow the organization from US$10.9 million to US$22 million in revenue, expanded membership from 15,000 to 21,500 and greatly increased the association’s international presence.

“I am honored to be selected as IFMA's next president and CEO,” Keane said. “It is evident that IFMA has a solid foundation for future growth. I look forward to working with the staff, board of directors, councils, chapters and members to continue the success of IFMA and increase recognition of the facility management profession worldwide.”

Prior to NACE, Keane served as chief operating officer of the Optical Society of America in Washington, D.C. Before that, Keane served as director of resource management, interim executive director and deputy executive director of the Construction Specifications Institute, also located in Washington, D.C. NACE, OSA and CSI are member-based organizations featuring trade shows, chapters, seminars, credentials and research.

Keane’s past positions have provided him with a broad range of experience, from accounting to business management. In addition to NACE, OSA and CSI, he has served at the Institute of Industrial Engineers, The Software Factory, Trade Management, Keane Financial Services, NCR Corporation and Arthur Andersen & Co.

Keane holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and management from the University of Cincinnati and was a certified public accountant in the state of Ohio. He is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and on the board of directors for the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives. Keane has conducted seminars and conferences for both organizations, including presentations at the ASAE Financial Management Symposium and the CESSE annual meeting.

“I’d like to thank the CEO search committee, under the leadership of IFMA Second Vice Chair Bill Rodgers, for their dedicated, impassioned efforts to conduct extensive interviews with several qualified candidates and perform the due diligence necessary to recommend this highly qualified professional for selection,” said IFMA Chair Thomas L. Mitchell Jr., CFM, CFMJ. “Tony brings a wealth of diversified professional association experience, organizational growth accomplishments and member-centric program development successes that speak both to his leadership skill and to his ability to meet the needs of those he has served.”

IFMA is the world’s largest and most widely recognized international association for professional facility managers, supporting more than 19,500 members in 60 countries. The association’s members, represented in 125 chapters and 16 councils worldwide, manage more than 37 billion square feet of property and annually purchase more than US$100 billion in products and services. Formed in 1980, IFMA certifies facility managers, conducts research, provides educational programs, recognizes facility management certificate programs and produces World Workplace, the world’s largest facility management conference and exposition.
