From grocery store to culinary school

From grocery store to culinary school

October 6, 2010

A former West Philadelphia supermarket is moving up the food chain, transitioning from grocery store to the Center for Culinary Enterprise, a business culinary training school. Friday Architects/Planners is dicing up the 12,000-sf space into three portions: a 6,000-sf culinary center, a 3,000-sf training restaurant, and a 3,000-sf retail space for local businesses. The facility will also house a multi-media learning center (called eKitchen) and work a nearby urban farm. Solar tubes will be used to bring natural light into the kitchen and retail spaces to reduce electricity use in what are typically energy-hogging areas.
