The Design-Build Institute of America, the leading advocate and resource center for design-build industries, today announced that Lisa Washington, CAE will assume the role of Executive Director upon the retirement of current DBIA President and CEO Lee Evey. The transition will be complete by June 2009. As Executive Director, Washington will serve as DBIA’s chief executive and will be accountable directly to the DBIA Board of Directors.
“After a wonderful five-year tenure, it is time for me to move on,” Evey said. “I leave DBIA in Lisa’s tremendously capable hands. She has worked side-by-side with me nearly every day since I came to DBIA and she embodies the values we all share. This will be a seamless transition.”
Washington joined DBIA in 2004, serving first as DBIA’s Vice President of ducation/Conferences, and currently as Chief Operating Officer. She is directly responsible for many initiatives, including the highly-successful “National Education Tour” which, in its first year, quadrupled the organization’s reach in the industry and exponentially increased the organization’s revenue. Her extensive background in association management combined with her in-depth knowledge and understanding of the organization’s programs, services and membership makes her well-suited to take DBIA to the next level of excellence.
In building on the work that Evey has done to position DBIA as a respected player in the design and construction industry, Washington will maintain a mission-driven, market-focused approach that engages loyal members and key industry leaders in shaping the organization’s future.
“I know I have big shoes to fill,” Washington said. “Lee has been a tremendous asset to DBIA and we are pleased he will continue to be involved as a strong advocate for the design-build industry.”
Mr. Evey came to DBIA in June 2004 during a crucial time in the organization’s history, bringing the industry knowledge and background needed to revitalize the association’s membership, programs and services. Having served as program manager for the Pentagon renovation both pre- and post 9/11, his fresh perspective and first-hand experience of the value and benefits of design-build project delivery proved instrumental in propelling the association to its rightful place as the “center of expertise” in design-build project delivery.
“Having been directly responsible for the development and implementation of organizational and operational strategies leading to DBIA’s renewed success, Lisa was a natural choice to fill the chief staff executive role,” said Tom Porter, DBIA 2009 Board Chair. “As we strive for our next pinnacle of success, Lisa will work closely with the Board of Directors to maintain a proper balance among varying market segment needs by further building staff infrastructure, partnering with key industry leaders, and tapping into the vast knowledge and experience of the DBIA membership.”
