The Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut held the 6th annual Excellence in Construction Awards ceremony and dinner on January 24, 2008. More than 700 attended the event at the Aquaturf in Southington, Conn., where contractors were honored for outstanding construction projects completed by October 2007.
The projects submitted are judged by an independent panel of judges including architects, engineers and university professors. Project submittals must adhere to application requirements for consideration of the year's top honors. Contractors must include references and indicate their status as an ABC Safety Training Evaluation Process contractor as well as an ABC Accredited Quality Contractor.
The year's Best in Show and Jury Award went to Konover Construction Corp. and Notch Mechanical Constructors, respectively. The top designations are chosen by the panel of judges as the year's best of the best. The association also awarded the Merit Cup to its outstanding member of the year, Sarazin General Contractors, and honored safety award recipients.
Konover Construction won best in show for their $9-million Connecticut College Project Notch Mechanical Constructors won the Jury Award for the $30-million construction of Aspen Aerogel's first world-scale production facility utilizing its advanced technology manufacturing process. Sarazin General Contractors, Inc. is a family owned, merit shop contractor that successfully completed a range of projects including hospitals, schools, libraries, office buildings, and historic structures.
