Building Design+Construction (BD+C) and Residential Lighting magazines were named by the Association of Business Information & Media Companies (ABM) as winners in the 60th Annual Jesse H. Neal Awards competition for editorial excellence. ABM's prestigious Neal Award is recognized as the "Pulitzer Prize of the business press."

Owned by Scranton Gillette Communications/SGC Horizon, Residential Lighting and BD+C captured the win in the Best Single Issue category for the April 2013 issue of Building Design+Construction (see digital edition of the winning issue). The issue contained a 24-page LED Lighting Solutions section that was a joint effort of the Residential Lighting editorial team and BD+C designer Elena Mengarelli.

Building Design+Construction's April issue cover story on "23 Things You Need to Know About Charter Schools" also won the 2014 Neal Award in the Best Instructional Content category. BD+C was a finalist in a third category, Best Cross-Platform Package, for its November 2013 package, "Pedia-Pod: The Modular Pediatric Unit."

"We were honored to collaborate with BD+C on this issue, bringing our understanding of LED lighting technology to another relevant audience amid other award-winning content," says Residential Lighting Editorial Director/Publisher Laura Van Zeyl.

The Neal Award winners were announced at the March 14, 2014 ABM-hosted ceremony in New York City. BD+C Editorial Director Robert Cassidy was presented with the 46th annual G.D. Crain, Jr. Award, which recognizes a business media editor with a proven career record of product quality and high journalistic standards. The award is named for the founder of Crain Communications, Advertising Age and BtoB Magazine.

"Being included among the distinguished winners of the G.D. Crain, Jr. Award made for quite a day," Cassidy says. "Capturing the two Neal Awards was a tribute to everyone on the Scranton Gillette team."
