The art and science of coating colors

Jeff Alexander | August 6, 2015

Formulating colors for architectural coatings is a complicated process that includes resins, pigments, and solvents. Special care must be taken to formulate coatings to ensure performance, even in the most demanding environments.

For example, organic pigments can produce vibrant colors, but are less resistant to fading. Inorganic pigments have a more limited color palette but are highly durable, with longer warranties.

Nobody understands the art and science of coatings better than Valspar. With 20,000 colors in our labs, Valspar is at the forefront of innovation. Valspar color technicians are meticulous in specifying the ideal pigments for a given project, delivering coatings that meet performance, budget, and environmental goals.

Our extensive color library is a useful tool in selecting coatings for a project. Be aware that colors may vary online, depending on the color settings of the monitor. When a swath has been selected, samples can be ordered through our online color library or by contacting us directly.

As a company that takes pride in unbeatable customer service, our color experts are available as a resource in the design process. Collaborating on the front end of a project can save time and money later on.

We can create nearly any color imaginable in our labs, if a desired color isn't in our library. Colors can be matched in the laboratory, or custom colors can be created within a matter of days.
