The "pure sphere" that will constitute the main exhibit center at the Expo 2017 world's fair in Astana, Kazakhstan, is nearing completion.
The exhibit, which employs double-curved glass to create a true sphere, rather than a geodesic dome, was designed by the U.S. firm Adrian Smith+Gordon Gill, Chicago.
IT Engineering S.A., headquartered in Lugano, Switzerland, is the Construction Project Manager on the site.
The theme of the fair, which opens June 10, 2017, for three months, is "Future Energy."
The story of the design of the 'pure sphere' was captured in Building Design+Construction's February 2016 issue: "How to Make a 'Pure Sphere': Icon to Symbolize 'Future Energy.'"
