Video Podcast: ‘High Performance School of the Future’ opens at Greenbuild

Project FROG founder talks about this zero-energy demonstration classroom

Watch Mark Miller, founder and CEO of Project FROG, as he talks about the innovative design features, building systems, and materials in the “High-Performance School of the Future, Today” demonstration classroom in an exclusive video podcast from Building Design+Construction. (Videos posted below.)

BD+C teamed with the San Francisco-based modular building innovator to build the 1,282-sf demonstration classroom at the Greenbuild show, which took place Nov. 18-21 in Boston.

Thousands of Greenbuild attendees toured the classroom during the show to learn more about its high-performance features, which include daylight harvesting, underfloor air distribution, low-e glazing, a vegetated roof, rooftop photovoltaic panels, an indirect lighting system with occupancy sensors and daylighting controls, and VOC-free carpeting.

The classroom’s design is optimized to improve student performance by providing abundant daylight with minimal glare, improved acoustics, ideal sightlines, and enhanced indoor air quality. Integrated white boards and tack boards create a highly flexible learning environment.

The demonstration project is also the debut of Project FROG’s FROG Zero classroom model, which generates as much energy (via the PV array) as it consumes.

The FROG Zero demonstration classroom will be reused as part of a three-unit classroom building planned at the Watkinson School in Hartford, Conn. The energy-neutral building will be the new home for the school’s Center for Science and Global Citizenship.
