Construction is under way on the 32-story mixed-use residential Sapphire Tower, which is being planned as the most luxurious condo tower in San Diego. Designed by Austin Veum Robbins Partners, San Diego, the 290,000-sf condo building features 97 homes, including a penthouse that has already been sold for $5 million. The $66.6 million development is adjacent to the Little Italy and Columbia downtown neighborhoods, and features five levels of subterranean parking; two levels of common areas, including a lobby, a lounge, a fitness center, an above-grade pool, and future office and retail space; and 29 levels of condos. Swinerton Builders, San Francisco, is the GC; Centurion Partners, Newport, Calif., and Avion Development, San Diego, are the developers. Completion: July 2008.
