To thrive, it must redefine the way it looks at its industry with education, innovation and optimism. This year’s 2009 Align to Redefine will examine the challenges and opportunities the industry faces during a historically difficult economic climate. The day is designed to change the way participants approach opportunities in their industry and in their lives. A highly interactive experience, Align to Redefine is created to provoke thought, inspire conversation and create good in the building industry and beyond.

Align showcases the continuous refinement of the integrated interdisciplinary approach and encourages and inspires participants to discover new ways to enhance outcomes, process, production and timeline.

More than just speakers and Power Points, Align’s living classroom-style encourages active learning and participation with multimedia. Participants will engage in discussion and analysis of real world issues and the allocation of their solutions. The pace of the day keeps participants interacting and imagining the next great idea.

ABOUT D&CS: With eight major projects currently under construction, the department’s five units – Operations, Quality Assurance, Contract Administration, Construction & Inspection, and Budget & Finance – continue to change the landscape of the UC Irvine campus and medical center by successfully implementing campus planning and design parameters for one of the largest campus-building programs in the nation.

Since its creation more than 40 years ago, the ever-growing campus size and scope has been coined fondly as "UCI – Under Construction Indefinitely." Led by Associate Vice Chancellor Rebekah Gladson, FAIA, since the early 1990s, Design & Construction Services unites architecture, education and living space into one fluid community.

In the past year, D&CS and its partners have completed UC Irvine’s new University Hospital four months ahead of schedule and under budget. Phase II of the new University Hospital is now underway and there are seven other D&CS projects under construction. Since the beginning of 2000, D&CS has completed or has under construction more than $1.5 billion in capital projects that are reshaping the UC Irvine community, which is a testament to the successful execution of the design/build concept.
