Individual projects include the Institute for Critical Technologies & Applied Science (ICTAS) Phase II, Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) Facility Addition, and the Academic & Student Affairs Building.
ICTAS Phase II, a three-story, 43,000-gross-square-foot research facility, will include highly specialized research labs for applied and fundamental research in bioengineering, biomaterials and bio-nanotechnology. Additionally, this $24-million facility will support communications and sensor technologies, and consist of support spaces, offices and associated areas.

The new $20-million facility will also provide additional conference, meeting and assembly space of varying sizes for all VBI research groups.
Four stories in height, the Academic and Student Affairs Building is a 60,000-square-foot facility that will include a major dining area, classrooms and administrative office space for the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities. Construction is scheduled to start in summer 2010, and the $29-million building is intended to qualify for LEED Silver certification.
