Skanska Receives Green Award

Skanska Receives Green Award

By Staff | August 11, 2010

Skanska USA Building Inc. announced that its Durham, NC, office has received the Triangle Business Journal Green For-Profit Business of the Year Award. The Green Awards competition was created to recognize the many businesses, government entities and nonprofits that are employing environmentally friendly practices as part of their daily lives.

One of Skanska's more notable green initiatives in Durham is its in-office composting, an effort to reduce its waste stream. Titled "Waste Zero," this program is geared towards diverting more of Skanska's waste from the landfill. In fact, Skanska's composting efforts alone divert 400 to 500 pounds of trash from landfills each month.
