Automatic daylight sensors, translucent clerestory windows, and a climate control system are a few of the sustainable features of the new Shakespeare & Company Center in Lenox, Mass. Designed by Great Barrington, Mass.-based Clark & Green, the project involves transforming a major portion of an existing 54,000-sf fieldhouse into a 31,200-sf theater. When completed in April 2008, the facility will include three interconnected zones: a rehearsal area comprised of three studios; a two-story technical development area housing consolidated scene, prop, and costume shops; and a performance venue that includes a flexible studio theater with multiple seating configurations for 155 theatergoers.
