A complex of five office buildings in Alexandria, Va., for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will be developed by LCOR Alexandria LLC. The Washington office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is architect for the 2.6 million-sq.-ft. development, which will include two parking garages and two townhouse/office buildings. Turner Construction Co. is contractor for the project, which is scheduled for completion in mid-2005.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is building a $20 million addition to the School of Nursing's Carrington Hall. Pearce, Brinkley, Cease & Lee of Raleigh is architect for the 70,000-sq-ft project. Atlanta-based Heery International is the construction manager. The project, which is part of a $3.1 billion North Carolina program to fund new construction and renovation of higher education facilities, is to be completed in the fall of 2003.

Casino del Sol in Tucson will be Arizona's largest casino/entertainment complex when a 140,000-sq.-ft permanent casino and entertainment facility is completed in the spring of 2003. The Phoenix office of architect-engineer Leo A. Daly is designer for the project. Phoenix-based Kitchell Contractors is the construction manager/general contractor.

A 46-year-old building in downtown Washington, D.C., will be renovated and expanded in a project designed by architect-engineer RTKL. The Bethesda, Md., office of New York City-based AMEC is the general contractor. Three stories will be added to the original building, which features a stone façade. Because the building's 16th and K Street location is at the confluence of two zoning areas, RTKL says the project's design must respect both low-scale residential buildings and 130-ft.-high commercial structures.
