Translucent glass helps Marine Corps chapel capture landscape views

Translucent glass helps Marine Corps chapel capture landscape views

March 17, 2011

Hope’s Windows were installed in the U.S. Marines Memorial Chapel in Quantico, Va., a small 77-seat facility designed by Denver-based Fentress Architects. The concept behind the $5 million facility, framed in Douglas fir with timber columns and stone accents, is a “transparent chapel in the woods.”

Hope’s large-span translucent windows add to the feeling of transparency, with modern high-tensile steel framework hidden behind wooden frames with optically brilliant laminated glass that offers uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape.
