Phoenix library cuts energy costs with solar-covered parking lot

The Burton Barr Library in downtown Phoenix has received a pre-fab, solar-covered parking lot courtesy of SolarWing, generating power to offset energy costs for the central public library. The $1.3 million project, funded by an Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, features a unique canopy system, which includes a combination of solar panels and LED lighting. Each system contains twice as many solar panels as traditional solar parking lots and can be positioned to optimize sun exposure. SKY Renewable Energy led the project, installing 84 covered parking spaces that will provide the library with more than 148 kW of power.
