Hardwood flooring from eucalyptus trees

Hardwood flooring from eucalyptus trees

August 11, 2010
This article first appeared in the 200904 issue of BD+C.

Engineered, single-strip hardwood flooring features a wear layer made from fast-growing eucalyptus trees grown on sustainably certified plantations in Brazil. Lyptus is harder than oak, less expensive than walnut, as beautiful as Brazilian cherry in appearance with a fine grain and rich color. The flooring is well suited for commercial builders looking for an environmentally responsible, exotic hardwood flooring that can be installed in virtually any room, including below-grade spaces and rooms with radiant heat. Available in 3¼- and 5-inch widths with a standard tongue-and-groove construction that can be stapled, glued down, or floated.
