August 11, 2010
This article first appeared in the 200808 issue of BD+C.

Consisting of a layer of expanded polystyrene insulation sandwiched between two layers of oriented strand board, Premier Building Systems's structural insulated panels (SIPs) feature a 60% higher whole-wall efficiency than traditional 2x6-inch, R-19 construction. As a result, SIPs can help lower a building's heating and cooling costs by up to 60% while reducing the size of HVAC equipment by up to 40%, says the maker.
