Carpet backing from windshield waste

Carpet backing from windshield waste

Tandus Flooring's Ethos turns waste car windshields and safety glass into modular carpet backing. The company also reclaims the film layer of the shatterproof glass, grinds it into pellets, and uses it for backing. The Dalton, Ga.-based manufacturer collaborated with Kaiser Permanente to engineer and test the product. The non-chlorinated thermoplastic used in its manufacture can be recycled repeatedly, thus diverting it from landfills indefinitely.
