Eleven new buildings spanning 99,000 sf will help Carlsbad (Calif.) High School improve educational and extracurricular experiences for its almost 3,000 students. An extensive Building Team of designers and contractors from McCarthy Building Companies, Leighton Engineering, Cornerstone Engineering, Johnson Consulting Engineers, Donn C. Gilmore and Associates, and Lightfoot Planning Group constructed the new classrooms, performing arts center, lab, and cafeteria. The $86 million is part of a $198 million bond measure passed by city voters in 2006. Classroom buildings combine curtain walls with metal sunlight screens to reduce energy and costs.
