Gilbane Building Company has completed construction on the 164,000-sf Business Instructional Facility at the University of Illinois, Champaign. The building accommodates the MBA, undergraduate affairs, and accounting programs, as well as off-campus guests. Designed by Cesar Pelli, the four-story structure includes a five-story glass commons/courtyard garden atrium, a 300-seat auditorium, vaulted zinc roofing clad in photovoltaic tiles, and tiered classrooms with glare-free daylighting. The LEED Gold-registered building is expected to consume as much as 75% less energy than older campus structures.
