Downtown Newark, N.J.'s redevelopment efforts will get a boost with the expected 2009 completion of the 44,000-sf headquarters of one of the area's largest nonprofit community organizations. The two-story, $23.5 million Leaguers Headquarters and Head Start Building sports a steel structure with a white glazed brick veneer façade, with blue-tinted glass and multi-colored glass accents. It will house several child and community services, along with offices and multipurpose rooms. The project was contracted by McGowan Builders, Inc., North Bergen, N.J., with help from architect and engineer firm EI Associates, Cedar Knolls, N.J., and architect Wilson Woodridge Architects, East Orange, N.J.
